We are delighted to be able to run our 2020 autumn programme as planned and we're keeping everything crossed that this will be the case for the rest of this year!!

To comply with Covid Secure regulations we have reduced class sizes and re-organised the studio to allow for 2m social distancing between tables, introduced one way systems, installed a massive hand sanitising station and made lots of other alterations to how we have done things in the past to ensure everyone's safety and comfort. Masks will need to be worn when you are moving around the studio but they can be removed, if you wish, when you are working at your table.

We will not be serving meals in the house for the time being but will still provide lunches and cake etc but in a different way!!

Cost: £170 including delicious farmhouse lunches, afternoon cake and refreshments on tap

Heavy body acrylics can be used with a palette knife to create textural and expressive paintings. Sylvia will demonstrate her technique using a brush at first and then a palette knife. Each day will be a different subject and the different subjects lend themselves to this way of working and can inspire some expressive paintings. Using a palette knife can help to free up your paintings so come prepared to experiment.
Sylvia leads by demonstration followed by plenty of one to one assistance.

Sylvia will be tackling different subjects on each day.

This exciting day with John will cover elements of simplifying drawing to focus upon portraying the character and "feel" of a building study.  In particular you will be exploring how we see subjects and what we include and what we omit to produce quality pieces of work which we feel work for us. John wants to encourage participants to achieve a few of pieces of work with which they can feel pleased whilst allowing individual styles to shine through. John teaches and advocates a loose approach to drawing/watercolour style so be prepared to experiment and maybe draw like never before.

John is largely self-taught and deeply inspired by the landscape and buildings of Coastal Suffolk where he lives and works. He has exhibited in the UK and Channel Islands and sells his work worldwide.

This one-day course will explore how colours can be broken down into their constituent parts, then used to create dynamic watercolour paintings, moving towards a state of abstraction.
The expressive use of colour will be combined with the abandonment of perspective to allow images to emerge from a series of structured exercises.
Expect a little colour theory, a fair bit of 'letting go' and a lot of creativity and an introduction to the work of some of the key ‘modernist’ painters.

Your tutor, Richard Taylor is a very experienced teacher of painting and has always acknowledged the influences of Pablo Picasso, Andre Derain and Paul Klee on his own work.
